Tom Campbell's Statement on Partial Spending Freeze

Press Release

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tom Campbell issued the following comment on reports that the President and Democrats may propose a partial spending freeze.

"The President says his proposal to "freeze" federal spending will save about $3 billion a year. But with America facing a $1.35 trillion deficit, that's like trying to extinguish the sun with a garden hose.

"I'd welcome true spending reform, but I'm suspicious of this proposal. Instead of a hard freeze, the President's 'partial freeze' sounds more like a 'slurpee' — soft, messy and it melts away before you're done.

"So here's my message for Senator Boxer: if your party truly learned a hard lesson in Massachusetts, then give the people what they voted for — a hard freeze on federal spending."
